Tips for Sourcing the Best Cybersecurity Talent

The cybersecurity industry has the same hiring problems as other industries.  Open jobs have recently increased in the cybersecurity industry due to the threat/ risk of attacks and actual cyber attacks that businesses have encountered in the past few years.  In 2021, there were 3.5 million open positions compared to 1 million in 2013, according to Fortune. More than ever, companies need to learn how to find good cyber talent and retain it.

Here are some quick tips for developing your cybersecurity talent acquisition strategy:

Employers should also consider how the candidate will fit in with the team.  Specific skills can be taught, but personality cannot.  Analyzing your team's strengths and weaknesses will show you what qualities to look for in a new team member.

Recruiters and employers need to think about the fact that cybersecurity is a younger field.  Usually, candidates do not have decades of experience, so employers need to focus more on skills and willingness to learn over experience.

Expand your candidate pools

Diversifying your candidate pool can be a considerable advantage when recruiting talent.  Cybersecurity is an industry that has a lot of room for growth when it comes to recruiting women, minorities, veterans, people with disabilities, and people with non-traditional education.

Ask professionals

Sometimes it is hard to manage your TA process yourself.  Firms such as HireVergence-Job.com can help with your hiring needs.  They have the experience and expertise to place top candidates at your firm.
